What Can A Cosmetic Dentist Do For You?

Your smile is part of you and your image. If you feel like you have a bad smile, it can really affect your self-confidence.

If you aren't happy with the way that your smile looks, you do have some options. One of them is to go see a cosmetic dentist. Cosmetic dentistry actually covers a wide variety of procedures.

What you get from your cosmetic dentist depends on what your smile looks like, what shape your teeth are in, and what your final goal is. The dentist that you choose to work with will look at your mouth and talk to you about your final goals.

You may not be able to get exactly what you want, depending on your mouth, but you can still get pretty close to it.

Tooth whitening: This is probably the most common cosmetic procedure out there. The enamel in your teeth can pick up stains from the foods you eat, things you drink, and nicotine if you smoke. Yellowing or stained teeth don't look all that attractive. Your dentist can help you whiten your teeth so that they look nice and bright again. One way that they can do it is to use an in-office procedure with lasers. They will put a special bleaching gel on your teeth and then use a very low-powered laser to boost that gel.

If your dentist chooses to use this procedure, they may also send you home with trays and a special bleaching gel. If they do, make sure that you follow their instructions to the letter. Too much bleaching can wear away the enamel on your teeth, which weakens them.

Invisible Fillings: You may not think of fillings as something that a cosmetic dentist would do, but think of the getting fillings on the front of your tooth or any other visible place. You don't want to have those silver fillings showing. A cosmetic dentist will use a special amalgam that can be tinted. Tinting the amalgam is what makes the filling look invisible. It should blend seamlessly into your tooth. This dental amalgam is also stronger and longer lasting than other options. It grips your tooth better which causes it to have less risk of falling out at a later date.
